Urgent care treats patients who have an injury or illness that requires immediate care but is not usually serious enough to require a visit to an emergency room.
The case studies and practical advice given in this section of the website are designed to help SHAs and PCTs work together to develop integrated Urgent Care services in their areas.
An Unplanned Care Toolkit has been produced to help all those involved in the delivery of Urgent Care. It reviews and explores the progress and solutions for access to medicines following unplanned and urgent consultations. The web based toolkit has been written by the Medicines Management Network North West. It was supported as a project by the Department of Health.
The NHS Centre for Involvement has produced a guide for commissioners and providers showing how to implement an effective system of patient and public involvement in urgent care. It was produced in response to the 2006 consultation on the Direction of Travel for Urgent Care which identified low levels of public and patient involvement in urgent care.
