Less red tape, better healthcare - reducing NHS bureaucracy and empowering staff.
DH Simplification Plan
An ambitious but credible programme of action to reduce burdens on the public and private sector over the coming years, it is based on extensive consultation with the frontline and industry.
Inspection
There are currently over 30 bodies who can call on NHS Trusts to inspect performance, and many more can make visits. The Department is taking forward a number of measures to streamline the inspection process.
Data collection
The Department is taking forward a number of actions to ensure the burden of data collection is minimised as much as possible, by removing overlap and duplication, and ensuring we only collect essential data.

Controls assurance
The NHS Controls Assurance regime and the requirement to report centrally on it were scrapped from 1st August 2004, with the important elements of the Controls Assurance standards being incorporated into the Standards for Better Health
