The NIHR SDO Programme invites proposals to evaluate innovative developments that are occurring within the delivery of health and social care services for adults and older people. Funding up to £475,000 per project is available for three years duration. The application process will be in two stages, with outline proposals being invited in the first instance. The closing date for submission of outline proposals is 24 February 2009 at 1.00 pm.

The NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme invites outline research proposals within the broad area of diagnostic tests and test technologies. It will consider research, which evaluates tests used for the diagnosis, staging, grading, monitoring, prediction or the prognosis of disease or ill health. The closing date for submissions is 25 February 2009.
The NIHR invites proposals for preparatory work that will enable researchers to submit a successful Programme Grant for Applied Research application in a subsequent funding competition. A maximum of £100k will be available over a period of up to 18 months. Proposals may include:

Lifelong Health and Wellbeing (LLHW) is a major cross-council initiative supporting multi-disciplinary research addressing factors across the life course that influences healthy ageing and wellbeing in later life. The MRC is administering and managing the call on behalf on the LLHW funding partners, which includes the Department of Health and National Institute for Health Research.

Nominations are invited for the fourth round of the Clinical Senior Lectureship (CSL) Awards co-funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the NHS through local NHS Trusts. The CSL Awards aim to provide the sector with a new cadre of research and teaching senior clinical academics. HEFCE and the local NHS trusts are offering funding for up to 40 awards in the fourth round, in areas of clinical medicine and dentistry. The NIHR Public Health Research (PHR) programme invites proposals to evaluate public health interventions. Proposals are expected to provide new knowledge on the benefits, cost-effectiveness, acceptability and wider impacts of non-NHS interventions intended to improve the health of the public and reduce inequalities in health.

The NHS Physical Environment Research Programme invites research proposals that will contribute to the built environment and non-clinical services and support emerging National Service Frameworks and ministerial priorities. The Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme invites proposals for quantitative or qualitative research into Health and Public Health Services. The date for submitting a Registration of Intention (ROI) to apply is 19 December 2008 and the application closing date is 30 January 2009.
Clinical Lectureships are available for people who are advanced in their specialty training, have completed a research doctorate or equivalent and show outstanding potential for continuing a career in academic medicine or dentistry. Those who hold a National Training Number (NTN) and a PhD or MD are eligible to apply. Applications can be made between 1 April 2008 and 31 March 2009.
Academic Clinical Fellowships in Dentistry are available to dentists in the early stages of specialty training who can demonstrate outstanding potential for development as a clinical academic in research and/or education. The RCD website will direct applicants to the relevant deanery(ies) websites. The deaneries will confirm the availability of posts and agree the deadline for application submission.
